When choosing a beach or cove to spend the day, it is important to define the type of space that fits your needs and preferences. Know whether you are looking for peace and quiet in a secluded space, to enjoy active tourism and sports, or to spend a great day with the family. Each beach has certain services and characteristics, and it is interesting to find the one that best suits your preferences.
Here we will focus on the best beaches for children to have a great day out with the family. That's why we've highlighted the most spacious, safest beaches and those with services for the kids, such as a mini club or aquatic platform; great facilities for children to play and enjoy the beach to the fullest.
Here at Visita Costa Brava we have made a selection of the 15 best beaches on the Costa Brava to go with children.
As we travel along the Costa Brava from south to north, we would first like to highlight an area in the town of Lloret de Mar, the Fenals Beach. Here, children have plenty of space to run and play. The beach also has several services such as a mini-club for children, a space where sports and leisure activities are organised with specialised monitors.
Next, we find a cove to highlight in Tossa de Mar. Cala Salions, located in the urbanisation of the same name, is situated on the road from Tossa to Sant Feliu, and is usually frequented by families. As it is located in a residential area, it has a restaurant at the foot of the sand, and some shops where you can buy food and drink. In addition, Cala Salions has a remarkable extension, where children can run around, as well as an aquatic platform during the summer season.
We go up to the town of Sant Feliu de Guíxols where we find two outstanding beaches.
First of all we find Sant Feliu de Guíxols beach, the main beach located in the centre of the town; it is the ideal place to spend a great day with the family. It is well located, easily accessible by car, on foot or by bus, and has a large number of services to spend the whole day, such as restaurants, bars and shops. Moreover, Sant Feliu beach has a mini club and a water platform for the kids.
Beyond the town centre of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, there is another beach to be highlighted: Sant Pol beach. It is located in a marvellous urban setting that stands out for its modernist buildings, hotels and promenade. It is ideal for a day out with the children; it has plenty of space, establishments on the sand and a mini-club with many activities. It is also worth mentioning that the waters of Sant Pol are shallow.
Following the coast, to the north of s'Agaró, we find the Sa Conca beach. It is a beautiful natural space, with shallow waters and a remarkable extension. During the summer, it has an aquatic platform for children to have a great time.
In the municipality of Platja d'Aro there are two more outstanding beaches.
The first is the main beach, the Platja Gran, ideal for enjoying a great day out with the family. It is located right in the centre of the town, and is more than two kilometres long with many access facilities. It also has a large number of services available for the whole family; in addition, the kids can enjoy the mini-club and the aquatic platform.
A short distance away, we find Rovira cove, one of the most famous coves in this area and on the Costa Brava. At one end, it forms a sort of opening between the rocks that is ideal for bathing for the youngest children. And for the not so young, there is also an aquatic platform in the water.
Next is the town of Sant Antoni de Calonge.
Here, we would like to highlight the Sant Antoni beach thanks to its large extension, shallow waters and fine sand. Its T-shape gives children plenty of space to run around and is ideal for a great day out with the family. It has a large promenade with an area at one end for cycling and scooters. It also offers many services on the beach itself or just a few metres away.
In Begur you will find Aiguablava beach, a place that stands out for its beautiful natural surroundings and for the tranquillity and shallowness of its waters. It is a beach about eighty metres long and forty metres wide, with a large number of services for the whole family.
We move on to l'Estartit where we find Platja Gran. It is a very long beach, which links up with Griells beach and Mas Pinell beach until it reaches the mouth of the river Ter. It is an easily accessible area with a large number of restaurants and establishments within walking distance. It also has a mini club for children to enjoy leisure activities.
Arriving at l'Escala, we find Riells beach, one of the most central and popular beaches in this area of the Costa Brava. It is almost 600 metres long and has shallow waters, ideal for children to swim and play. The promenade also has a large number of shops, bars and restaurants for the whole family.
Further north, in the municipality of Roses, we find a series of beaches of note.
In the Roses town centre we find a succession of linked beaches suitable for children, among which we highlight La Nova beach for being the one with the mini club and the largest leisure offer. Salatar beach, Rastrell beach, La Punta/La Perola and Santa Margarida, have just made up the seafront in the centre of Roses, and they are all good options to enjoy a great day out with the family and for the kids to have a great time.
Once past the port, we find the Canyelles beach, still located in an urban environment and very well communicated. It is 370 metres long and has shallow waters, an ideal place for families with small children. It also has a large number of services.
Still in Roses, following the coastline, we find l'Almadrava, one of the best known and most highly rated beaches in the area to enjoy a day out with the family. It has a large number of services, such as a bar and restaurant, and is easy to reach by car, bus or walking along the coastal path.
Going up to Llançà, we find Grifeu beach, one of the most popular beaches in the area. It is located a short distance from the centre, and has a parking area right in front of it. It has a large number of services and is a very pleasant place to spend a day at the beach and swimming with the kids.
