Sant Quirze Hermitage
Sant Quirze is the oldest hermitage in Lloret de Mar. It is located in a high point, about 200 metres from the tourist office and the magnificent modernist cemetery.
It was first documented in 1079 in the consecration of the current Les Alegries Hermitage, but its origin is probably much older. One of the main hypotheses places its construction between the 7th and 8th centuries, although it was later destroyed by the Arabs and rebuilt in the 10th century.
The different archaeological campaigns that have been carried out around the chapel seem to confirm that this hermitage was built over an ancient Early Christian temple. From these interventions we highlight the discovery of material remains from the Roman period, as well as several burials that would correspond to a Roman necropolis.
Nowadays, Sant Quirze hermitage hosts the ceremonies of the large Russian Orthodox community in Lloret de Mar.
