Les Barques beach
It is located at the north of the centre of l'Escala. Firstly, it was an space only to tie the boats, until 1962 that was also declared an space for the bathers. Definitely, it was used as a port until they built the current port. Nowadays we can still see some basins where the coastal fishing boats tied in the XVIIIth century. In addition, is also well known because iit is the beach where the popular habaneras singing is performed.
Surrounded by the promenade and a lot of bars and restaurants, in an urban area, it is very valued for the people and it has a high level of occupancy. It offers us services like lifeguard, toiletes and showers and a walkway to the people with reduced mobility.
It has get the distinctives of Quality EMAS and ISO 14001.

Gastronomy and tradition
The name of l'Escala is known in many corners of the world thanks to the excellence of one of its main industries, the anchovies salting. During your stay, you can visit one of its factories to observe the traditional process of making this product, as well as the anchovy and salt museum.
As well as enjoying beaches and coves such as Cala Montgó, Riells beach or Illa Mateua cove, in l'Escala you can also discover the gateway to the Iberian Peninsula of the Greek and Roman cultures by visiting the Archaeological Site of Empúries.
A few metres from the site is the medieval village of Sant Martí d'Empúries, another highly recommended visit during your stay in l'Escala.
