Santa Helena de Rodes
In the municipality of El Port de la Selva, just over a kilometer from the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, we find the church of Santa Helena de Rodes, initially known as Santa Creu. Next to the temple is the medieval village of Santa Creu de Rodes.
We find the origin of the church of Santa Helena in the 9th century, in the context of pre-Romanesque art. In a document from the year 974, it is referred to as a possession of the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes. Two side naves were added to its original structure during the 16th and 17th centuries.
Between the 1980s and 1990s, the temple was studied thanks to a series of archaeological interventions. A restoration process was also carried out, seeking to preserve the structure without causing a major impact.
