Tower of Calella
The Calella Tower is located in Palafrugell, between Calella and Llafranc. The structure was built in the late 16th century. The constant threat of pirate raids prompted the need to create this surveillance and defense structure. At some point in its history, the tower was also used as a prison to hold captured pirates.
The tower has documented an incident that occurred in 1782, in which one of the cannons located in its upper body exploded, resulting in the death of five people.
