Santa Cristina hermitage
Santa Cristina is the patron saint of Lloret de Mar, and her church is one of the most cherished symbols for the locals. On the feast day - 24th July - one of the saint's relics is carried by sea in procession from Gran beach to Santa Cristina beach, at the foot of the hill where the hermitage is located.
The original chapel is first documented in the 14th century, although the present hermitage was built at the end of the 18th century around the first one, which had become too small for the devotion of fishermen, sailors and merchants.
This neoclassical church is of great artistic interest, both for its Italian marble main altar and for its collection of miniature model ships given as offerings to the saint by devout sailors.
The location of the Santa Cristina Hermitage is particularly privileged. From the square of Santa Cristina, in the shade of the centenary pine tree, there is a magnificent view of the Santa Cristina beach and Cala Treumal cove, a splendid corner of the Costa Brava that is well worth a visit.
