Montgó Tower
One of the main threats that the inhabitants of many towns on the Costa Brava had to face between the 12th and 18th centuries were the frequent incursions of pirates and corsairs. For this reason, many watchtowers were built along the coastline, such as the Montgó Tower located in l'Escala. This imposing defensive building has survived to the present day, and has been declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest.
